VISION

Crafting a new outlook for children

WHO ARE WE

Gifts with Heart is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity that provides community service opportunities. Participants make gifts for children in need.

WHAT WE DO

Since its launch in October 2004, Gifts with Heart has conducted 175 events attended by 45,400 people contributing 28,500 handmade gifts to clients at 26 social service agencies.

On Saturday, November 10th, 2007, 10am-3pm at the Lowe’s of West Houston (15555 FM 529), Gifts with Heart will host a citywide Build-A-Thon. School children, Scouts and families join together to make toys distributed during the holiday season. The event is free. The children work towards earning community service hours and Gifts with Heart Scout patches.

In December, invited guests and gift recipients come together for a private party where they meet face-to-face and celebrity the holiday season. On this special day, gifts are distributed to children in need.

In recognition of the Gifts with Heart efforts, Mayor Bill White declared December 19th as Gifts with Heart Day for the city of Houston.

WHY WE DO IT SO WELL

Participants develop

Crafting skills

Self awareness

Social awareness

When people come together face-to-face they are more inclined to help each other. Not everyone can go to another country to see how people live and understand their culture, but in a city as diverse as Houston, building hope, compassion and a sense of connection can start in their own back yard.
